besides being sick as a bastard, the weekend wasn’t good for too much. i took the week out of work, so by “weekend” i mean from saturday till yesterday. i did manage to remove a blown 6×9 speaker from the left rear of crissy’s saab. when asked how that could have happened, she pointed out that the latest madonna album is “bass heavy.” being such an awesome hubby, i went ahead and found her some replacements. after some searching online, i settled on the Infinity Kappa 692.7i. decent quality speaker, 2-way, 1″ dome tweeter, 2ohm impedance and 95db sensitivity. certainly a step-up from the oem speaks which were just single drivers with a whizzer cone. they can handle substantially more power, so crissy should have a lot more trouble damaging them (although anything is possible). it’ll probably end up being a PITA getting them mounted, but i’m a saint like that. i find that being saintly greatly improves my chances of winning when bidding for a play-through. slowly but surely i am getting my practice/rehearsal/recording space ironed out. also did a little maintenance on my BAGA (that’s Big Ass Guitar Amplifier). seems that a current-limiting resistor is getting hot enough to soften the solder that holds it in place, which causes it to move and ultimately contact the earthed chassis, which shorts out some 500+ volts and promptly blows a fuse. i need to find another method of a slow startup. this is pic of the guts: finally i stopped by city hall and gathered information on the permit process to build a back deck. basically they need a sketch of both construction method to insure safety as well as an outline overview to observe setbacks. two inspections shall be done, one for the concrete piers and another for the final construction. it will probably measure about 200 sqft and have two levels, one as a landing immediately outside the back door, and another as a sort of patio area tucked into an alcove in the back of the dining room. if the patio area is less than 30″ above grade then i can dispense with railings, which makes a lot of sense: first in utility (can get on and off it without walking around to the stairs), second in cost (no need for lumber for railings), third in construction labor (less to build), and fourth in privacy (a lower height makes it harder to see over the 6′ picket fence on the property boundary). anyway, here are a couple of pictures: funny picture time!!!
